In what can only be described as a tragic and horrific accident Ian Ebbs, husband and father of two teenagers, was killed when he fell into a huge industrial press at his employers’ establishment at St Ives Web publishing plant.
Mr. Ebbs survived the initial internal injuries he sustained on the night shift, when his work-mates managed to pull him free of the equipment. But he later lost his battle for life to the effects of internal injuries after just a few hours later.
Mr. Ebbs who lived in Werrington, Cambridgeshire was later described as a loving father and husband to his wife Jackie, 41, and his two teens Zoe, aged 13 and Matt, aged 15.
Officials from the local Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have now begun a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Ebbs death. A spokesperson for the Peterborough company St Ives Web said the presses were rolling again with the exception of the site of the accident to allow the HSE to conduct their examinations.
The spokesperson declined to make further comment pending the outcome of the investigation into the death of Mr. Ebbs by the HSE and possibly other government authorities.
This is unfortunately still an all too common occurrence when people work in proximity to heavy equipment. Employers should consider enhanced health and safety training with Workplace Law and their NEBOSH qualification to avoid the serious legal and moral obligations that these types of tragedies bring.

Working from home can be a most effective way to be more productive!
Today’s open plan offices stop many people from getting their work done. The constant noise, phones ringing and colleagues interrupting can drive anyone to distraction!
Many people would dramatically boost their productivity if they could spend some or all of their working week out of the main office and join the thousands of small business owners who work from home.
However there are a few rules you need to follow to do this successfully:
Establish a Routine
Decide on a starting and finishing time. Include breaks.
Plan Your Day
Prepare a ‘to do list’ each day and action it.
Clean out the Clutter
Keep your work area clean and tidy. You’ll work far more effectively and reduce the stress levels.
Organise Your Work Area
Have the right tools and systems to work with - an appropriate chair, desk, computer, filing system.
Group Tasks Together
Divide your day into similar activities. Make all phone calls in the morning and work on important tasks. Do errands later in the afternoon after the lunch-time rush or when you go to pick up the kids.
Learn How to Say NO!
Inform your family and friends of your working hours and that because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you’re ‘available’.
Take Time Out for You
It can be easy to lose yourself in your work. Take time to smell the roses…and make human contact.
The Final Word
Not everyone can work successfully from home - some need the daily discipline and people interaction encountered in the office.
However, for many others, working from home has greatly improved their productivity and enhanced their lifestyle.
They have more flexibility, more time and the opportunity to work much more effectively without all the usual distractions encountered in the traditional office environment.
So next time when you become overwhelmed with with the distractions at work and feel like you are going nowhere and getting nothing done, see if working from home for some of the week is a viable option.
After all, what’s the point of just showing up at the office if you cannot concentrate and work effectively.
Coping with your workload isn’t about being busy, it’s about being effective and working smarter, not harder.

In the not to distant past businesses were able to succeed simply with salespeople having a knowledgeable understanding of their products, some good old personal charm (people skills) and ambition.
But in today’s terrorized world, complex global economy, and intensely competitive business environment, salespeople from the small mom and pop to large corporate giants in every market face unprecedented challenges.
We heard several years back that technology, along with the Internet, set up an even playing field for all businesses. Many thought that technological innovation would be their magic potion for success in business. It is true that many have had an unequal advantage in business and life because of technology. But, remember the Dot.Com bubble that burst?
Communications, science, art, medicine, automation, supply chain and products have all been reinvented and have brought about a more intense competitive advantage for many. And with that comes more unearthing challenges.
With an economy that is rebounding — growth is slowing in many markets and industries. Customers are growing more fragmented in their purchases and less loyal, less trusting and focused on getting the best price with higher service expectations.
Products and service are quickly cloned and it is increasingly difficult to create genuine product differentiation.
Product life cycles are shorter and profit margins are getting very skinny due to a multitude of issues facing business. Security and safety is one.
Now, you may be thinking — Hmmmmm where is the bright side for the balance of 2005. The great news is that the ever increasing innovation in technological change is impacting all businesses. It brings Salespeople and businesses new strategies, tools and opportunities to succeed.
However your competition receives the same advantages opening their door of opportunity and unfortunately slamming the door shut for others. The key factor is for you to stay on the cutting edge of technology outpacing your completion.
Another factor and differentiation advantage for success in business will be what you sell - but, more importantly will be HOW you sell. With an over abundance of products and services and a global market crowded with suppliers, vendors, affiliates, MLM’ers, — business is scrambling to find ways to provide more value and real value to the consumer has moved beyond product features and benefits.
The secret for edging out the competition will be in your ability to be a source of credible information and master complex issues that will solve customer’s problems producing long-term strategic customer relationships. The bad news is that this takes a new MINDSET on your part and understanding the physiological mindset of how your customer thinks. However, as the challenges increase — the potential for success will expand, only, for those who master these complex issues.

If you are in the pressure washing business and are serious about what you clean on the ground floor, I suggest you attend the WOC. The WOC is the World of Concrete Expo in Las Vegas, which is held once per year. Each year it grows and is now one of the largest trade shows in Las Vegas. We spent two days walking the halls, meeting vendors, potential customers and learning about new materials, cleaners and equipment.
The first year we attended the show was the World of Concrete Expo 03′ from 02-04-03 to 02-07-03 we cruised the Blitz mobile around the Vegas Strip and into the World of Concrete (WOC) Expo. Talk about information over load, this was the largest Expo for Concrete ever in the history of the world, thus the name World Concrete Exposition was very appropriate. We met people from over 30 countries in attendance and discussed the markets in Europe, South Africa, South America, Australia, Japan and even Russia.
http://www.worldofconcrete.com/content/splash_woc.htm
We have been back every year since then and every year, you guessed it gets bigger. Our Company the Concrete Wash Guys, cleans all types of concrete from new construction, shopping malls, fast food restaurants, runways and even large box stores like Home Depot and Wal-Mart.
www.ConcreteWashguys.com
Feel free to go to our website if you run a mobile cleaning business as it may give you some ideas of what to clean and how to clean it. It might also give you ideas on how to market your services to the big boys. As we travel the country we see many eyesores where concrete has not been cleaned at very image conscious businesses. We know there is a market and we intend to clean up the world, but we cannot do it alone, so we must help educate the other mobile surface cleaners out there so that they can help us. In Los Angeles alone there is said to be 300 square miles of concrete, imagine the opportunity just in cleaning God’s dirt of the ground? As many larger customer have cut back on concrete cleaning frequency and even strung out independent operators to dry in slow receivables, we see additional markets and were presently surprised to receive a warm reception from builders, parking structure owners, property management professionals and contractors. If you are in the pressure washing business and you are smart then you will go to the World of Concrete Expo in 2005 in Las Vegas and we will see you there.
This is just one way you can stay on top of the industry’s greatest innovations. We attend such functions to help our team members know the value of knowledge; you would be wise to do the same. Think about it.

So you are contemplating starting a new business or maybe you have already made the decision to start a gift merchandising business but have no idea where or how to begin to showcase your products or services. A good place to start is by becoming a dealer at a craft and antique store. This is really how I started my gift merchandising business. Once I found the products I wanted to sale, I stumbled across this opportunity and I found it to be the perfect medium for my products. Let me explain a little about the store concept. Craft and Antique Malls are similar to craft and antique shows except they are open seven days a week, all year around. A large selection of crafts, antiques, and collectibles are displayed under one roof from several dealers. Individual dealers are not required to be present to sale their merchandise.
These stores provide pre-constructed booths for your merchandise in a wide variety of sizes. You rent the size booth that will accommodate your merchandise. Booth space may rent for as little as $25.00 per month. Typical booth sizes may range in size from 1×2, 3×4, 3×5, 3×6, 4×5, 4×6, 4×8, 5×6, and 6×8. Other sizes including display showcases may be available. Rent, of course, is based on the size of the booth you select. The store may require that you sign a six month leasing agreement paying the first month’s rent and a security deposit equal to the first month’s rent. Typically the type of merchandise you will find in a craft and antique store are handmade and unique items. Manufactured items are allowed in most stores of this nature but they should be of good quality and compliment the handmade items in the store. What is really great about this set up is that all you have to do is keep your booth stocked. You don’t have to be present to make sales. There is a professionally trained sales staff present at the store that will take care of all your sales including collecting and remitting all sales tax. You should be paid for sales twice monthly. Detailed statements about your sales should be included with the check.
I’ve included some qualities that you want to look for if you are thinking about pursuing a craft and antique mall for your merchandise.
Look for a store that is open-year around, seven days a week
A large clean shopping space. Look for several thousands of square feet.
Excellent location in a high- traffic area.
Pre-constructed booths that can be painted and decorated to suit your merchandise.
No work day requirements for dealers.
Dealers are not required to be present to make sales.
Frequency of payment and notification of sales. Shouldn’t be less than twice a month.
Leasing agreements - 6 month, 3 month, or month-to-month.
Type of payments accepted - personal checks, major credit cards, layaways. A good store will take the loss if a personal check is returned.
Collection and remittance of all sales tax.
The ability to fill your booth space with merchandise either in person or by sending it to their experienced staff for stocking.
A good advertising and promotion plan.
Website
Talk to other dealers about their experience at the store.
I was a dealer at local craft and antique store for 3 years. It was overall an enjoyable and positive experience for me. I will admit that there were some months where sales were more profitable than other months and sometimes it was a guessing game trying to figure out what types of merchandise to showcase. It can be trial and error; however, the store that I selected was very supportive and helpful to the dealers which made a great deal of difference.
If you are able to find a craft and antique mall in your area, I encourage you to give it a try, especially if you can’t afford to open your own location for a store. This concept allows you to have a business location where not only family and friends can shop but attract new customers also, without the responsibilities of store ownership.
I do have an online gift store that I’d love to have you visit http://blueangeboutique.com

Presidential candidate John Kerry is fond of stating that “… not since Herbert Hoover has any president lost more jobs than George W. Bush.” And there is a kernel of truth to the statement; thanks to technology, jobs require less human intervention to complete. However, a larger factor in this seeming loss of employment is due to the evolution of the American workforce from a lot indentured to the confines of one company or one job title toward the Jeffersonian ideal of every person being a free agent, or indie.
The explosion in the number of people going indie has a number of causes. Downsizing created the realization that “job security” isn’t something other people provide, but something you have to create. Two-income families discovered that with their increased tax burden and overhead expenses for daycare, cleaning, housekeeping services, home maintenance and lawn care, a second income from paid full-time employment can actually be a liability.
Individuals interested in becoming self-employed can segue more easily from employee to entrepreneur via the indie route. Finally, career changers can obtain valuable experience and networking opportunities in their field of choice with contract work.
Indies may lose company-provided benefits, but that doesn’t mean they are without means. As an independent contractor, they are eligible to create Medical Savings Accounts, or they may be eligible to participate in a group health plan through organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce. They can create their own retirement programs via SEP, SIMPLE, or IRA investments, or the direct purchase of government-backed I-bonds. If they work out of their homes, they have access to extensive tax deductions not available to wage earners.
In short, indies can have the best of all possible worlds - steady income, health and retirement benefits, more real income, and a life.
What kind of jobs are available to independent contractors? Well, here are some of the indie jobs I’ve done:
- Telephone psychic ($20.00 per hour, work from home)
- Mystery shopper ($15.00 per hour + expenses)
- Virtual assistant ($15.00 - $30.00 per hour, depending on the task)
- Editor ($35.00 per hour)
- Ghostwriter ($50.00 per hour)
Many creative and professional jobs, such as technical writers, webmasters, graphic designers, programmers, teachers and tutors, etc. are done by independent contractors on a project-by-project basis. However, the FedEx Home Delivery and Schwann’s Ice Cream drivers are also independent contractors, so not having professional credentials is not necessarily a barrier to indie work.
Not everyone is suited to life as an indie. If you absolutely need the structure imposed by a job, a manager and a time clock in order to function, then don’t consider going indie. If, however, you like having some freedom, are self-disciplined enough to complete jobs on time without being told, and can organize your day and yourself to maximize your productivity and meet your clients’ needs, you have the necessary personality traits to become a successful independent contractor.
Ignore the gloom and doom scenario painted by politicians eager to have a job with perks you pay for. Join the indie revolution, and gain an income - and a life - without a traditional job. It’s a choice you won’t want the government to “help” you out of.

The concept of franchising is a couple of centuries old. The franchising business and world economies have developed simultaneously. The term ‘franchise’ comes from old French where it meant freedom, or privilege. Franchising goes back to the feudal times when the feudal lords granted permission to their slaves and common men to hold fairs, markets, ferries, and even allowed hunting on their lands.
In the middle ages, kings used the concept of franchising when they gave contracts, or franchises for most of the commercial activities like developing roads, wells, and brewing ale.
As the concept of franchising developed further, it was seen as the right to monopoly that a person got to perform any kind of a commercial activity. As time passed, several franchises became a part of the European Common Law.
Singer Sewing Machine Company is considered to be the father figure of franchising as most of the concepts of franchising developed by them, form a part of modern day franchising contracts.
The way in which Singer made its sales and provided services is considered to be modern retailing that is a part of franchising. In the 1850s, Singer brought together teams of salesmen and dealers who were given the rights to distribute sewing machines in different regions. They made written contracts for franchising, which are the basis of modern-day franchise agreements.
At this point in time franchising was seen as the right granted by the manufacturer to sell and distribute products and service to the franchisee. Big oil refineries, automobile manufacturers, and many others also started following the concept of signing written agreements for franchisee distribution.
Proper business format franchising came into being, in the United States and other countries of the world, after World War II. This was the time when soldiers returned from the war to be back with their families and the baby boom took place because of which different and newer products and services became essential.
This was when the concept of franchising developed the most. It made its presence felt in the U.S. economy. This was also the time when most of the hotels and motels developed. With the increase in the number of franchises, the 60s and 70s saw a time when every second person was into the franchising business.
The decades of 60s and 70s also brought about a number of frauds in the franchising business. There were people who duped many others by taking money from them in return for a franchisee that did not exist and escaped with the money. On the other hand there were also many franchise businesses that went bankrupt. This was when the need for strict regulations for franchising business was given a thought.
In the year 1978, the Federal Trade Commission ordered that all the franchisers/manufacturers were supposed to submit the Uniform Offering Circular or UFOC before receiving money from the prospective franchisers. The UFOC provides the details of the franchise company, gives their history, audited financial statements, information of the officers, and the contract, or the franchise agreement.
At present, the franchising is seen as the most lucrative business option for many people who aspire to own a business.

Registry Cleaner Reviews:
If you don’t have a registry cleaner, your PC will function at a slower rate. Also, without a registry cleaner, a PC will be inflicted with many annoying programs that run on the background. A registry cleaner scans, identifies and fixes the bugs that are contained in your operating system registry. Some of the bugs in your PC are actually from other programs that you have installed. Sometimes, your PC is running programs that are non-existent anymore. Installation and uninstallation processes also affect your PCs performance. Registry cleaners also deal with these errors. Sometimes, files are corrupted when you uninstall. Some PCs even restart on their own, behaving erratically and uncontrollable. If you have these problems, you need a registry cleaner. . When the system has been scanned with some free anti-Spyware or Spyware removal program the Spyware can be removed.
Clean And Repair Windows Registry:
Getting the right registry cleaner is very critical to your online privacy. You must make it a point to read all the registry cleaner reviews before attempting to buy your own registry cleaner. Why Does The Registry Slow The System Down? As mentioned, the registry updates itself with information. This makes the registry grow in size. As the registry is a hierarchical database the system refers to it serially. This means that the system begins looking for information from the beginning of the registry and goes through each entry individually. This is the case every time the operating system refers to the registry, which may be many times a second. As the registry automatically updates itself there many links and entries that are useless because the registry never deletes an entry. So when the registry is scanned the OS has to go through the useless entries as well. There are many tens of thousands of entries in the registry that lead to nowhere. These entries delay the search every time. A good registry cleaner such as PC registry cleaner or Windows XP registry Cleaner will detect these links and remove them. Then the Registry cleaner will fill the empty spaces by compacting the registry. This further enhances the performance of the PC.. More reviews at: Regcure Review
Registry Cleaners: Windows Xp Registry Cleaner:
One way to fix registry on computer is to have a backup for your Registry Checker. This is where editing the registry comes in. In reality, the registry of windows has an integrated Registry Editor. You can locate it at the Start menu, then Run, and then just type regedit.exe, and then hit OK. But if all else fails, you still have to find ways how to be prepared when things like this happens. Luckily, there are many things like these that are available in the market today. These items are specifically designed and exclusively operated to fix registry on computer. . If you own a computer, you must have your very own registry cleaners installed. Maintaining the registry is an important step in keeping your computer healthy.
