Temple Garlands and Country Gardens: the Gardener’s Storied History

Rakes and forks are surprisingly late tools, but you probably already know, the practice of gardening is as old as the human race. What is now an everyday recreation started to take shape prior to Ancient Egypt.
These early gardeners were guided by a blending of spirituality, pleasure, and practical reasons. The important grapes as well as similar edible plants would grow around pools of fish. A small part of this was set aside, holy plant life seeded and nurtured for use in the temples. Temple officers also looked after other roots in locations away from the gardens. Others, too, became known for the creation of primitive farmsteads. Also gardeners were the Babylonians, the Persians, as well as the Assyrians, all of whom also incorporated buildings of some scope into landscapes. The Romans also went in for tranquil gardens, though the Greeks did not. They tended gardens solely for sustenance.
Although they had no access to forks or rakes, these civilizations did use a number of simplistic aids which were the prototypes of modern spades and hoes. Spades were initially constructed from stone, but were made out of copper, bronze, and iron as time passed. Everything was forced to a halt during the Dark Ages. Horticulture was no different, but luckily, the Church practiced what had been learned.
Gradually we returned to growing flower gardens to enjoy. This movement advanced up to the sixteenth century, at which point gardens became increasingly established and precise. Some great exemplars include hedge mazes, which were inspired by intricate textures.
