Poker Terms: ‘Table Image’

Like a first impression in a job interview, the most up front and often valuable assets a player has at the poker table is how he appears to his opponents. Before you are even dealt a hand your opponent are already using ideas about your appearance and your demeanor to judge how you might behave at the table, some of which can often be true and lead to tells, and some of which might just be based on stereotypes that can be milked to your advantage at the casino online.

Some of the most basic concepts about a player come from how diligent or efficient they seem about the game. Are your chip stacks messy? Do you seem drunk? Are you loud, wily and aggressive? Is your clothing too neat and overly anal seeming? All of these small and seemingly minor feedbacks end up contributing to your physical image at the table, whether or not they pan out.

The second part of table image comes from how you actually perform with your chips. Are you loose and reckless or so tight you only ever turn over aces? Do you pay off even when it seems obvious you’ve been beaten? Do you check raise too often? All of these stats, among attentive players, can be catalogued and tailored to your game, especially if you don’t vary your image once in a while by, for instance, showing a rare bluff to a table full of aggressive poker online players.

Be aware of your table image. Under the right circumstances, it can be as important as the cards you are dealt.
