Healthy Gourmet Cooking Can Be Easy and Fun
Healthy gourmet cooking is not an oxymoron. It is a fine way to cook simply, using techniques that bring out the flavor in your cooking without using all the fats and oils that deliver a lot of flavor, but a lot of bad side effects for your health. Once in a while it’s fine to splurge on something really packed with calories, but as a matter of habit, it’s bound to cause problems down the road. People who eat a lot of rich gourmet food often end up with gall bladder problems, heart disease, and weight gain. None of these are good for you, and often they are preventable with diet control.
Here are some ideas for healthy gourmet cooking:
• Buy cookbooks that explain how to cook foods that are rich in flavor but not in calories. These cookbooks are out there by the hundreds.
• Search online for recipes that are tagged as healthy gourmet cooking recipes.
• Buy fresh foods when they are in season. Peppers, for example, are simply delicious when they are roasted on a grill or broiler, and their skins are removed. When sliced or diced, these make delicious toppers to dress up a salad or a bowl of roasted baby red potatoes with sautéed onions, and a little grating of parmesan cheese.
• Learn to cook using a vegetable oil like olive oil instead of margarine or butter. There are many healthy gourmet cooking recipes that rely 100% on olive oil for their source of fat.
• Choose the produce you eat by color, and learn to combine them in salads or cooked dishes. The stronger the color, the more nutrition they have.
Healthy gourmet cooking does not have to be difficult or expensive. There are so many resources available for learning to cook them now, and modern science has identified many of the foods that benefit your body in many ways. Cooking can be fun, and when you look at your diet as your prescription for a long, healthy, comfortable life, it’s easy to make the switch to healthy gourmet recipes.
